13 năm sau khi Steve Jobs khởi đầu cuộc cách mạng modern smartphone, iPhone giá rẻ vẫn là nỗi thèm muốn của nhiều người. Bởi thế, chúng ta có thể gần như chắc chắn rằng, nếu iPhone được giảm giá mạnh, Apple chắc chắn sẽ chiếm thị phần cao hơn rất nhiều so với hiện nay. Nếu iPhone giá cao còn có thể lọt top (hay đứng đầu) các bảng xếp hạng bán chạy trong khi Android cao cấp hoàn toàn vắng bóng, chắc chắn iPhone giá thấp sẽ “làm gỏi” Android giá mềm.

Nhưng Apple giờ là công ty được lãnh đạo bởi con cáo già cao tay nhất làng công nghệ. Apple sẽ không bao giờ phá giá theo kiểu Xiaomi (hay Vsmart). Tháng 9/2019, iPhone 11 ra mắt với mức giá 700 USD, giảm 50 USD so với giá khởi điểm của iPhone XR khi vén màn vào năm 2018. Theo nhiều nguồn phân tích thị trường, Apple có thể là thương hiệu iPhone số 1 thế giới trong quý cuối năm, vượt mặt đối thủ Samsung (do cả Apple và Samsung đều không công bố số liệu chính thống, vẫn có nhà phân tích cho rằng Samsung vượt Apple với khoảng cách không đáng kể).

Bất kể số liệu về doanh số có chính xác hay không, Apple đã đè bẹp tất cả các đối thủ cạnh tranh khác trên khía cạnh quan trọng nhất: lượng tiền thu về. Doanh thu iPhone trong quý 4/2019 đạt 56 tỷ USD, cao hơn tổng doanh thu tất cả các mảng kinh doanh của Samsung – vốn bao gồm cả các mảng bán dẫn, tấm, cảm biến hay TV thuộc top đầu thế giới bên cạnh smartphone. Con số này cũng gần tương đương với tổng doanh thu của Huawei trong cả nửa đầu năm 2019 và gấp gần 4 lần doanh thu smartphone của Xiaomi trong cả năm 2018. Khi doanh thu dịch vụ và phụ kiện vẫn đang phát triển đều đặn, cơn sốt mới của iPhone đã giúp cho Apple đạt doanh thu lên tới 91 tỷ USD trong quý tài chính cuối cùng của năm.

Nhưng một lần nữa, Tim Cook là một con cáo già, mà cáo già thì sẽ không bao giờ làm những điều mà kẻ khác cho là hiển nhiên. Khi ngay cả một hãng phá giá cấu hình như Xiaomi cũng đã hơn 1 lần suy giảm doanh số trầm trọng, một kẻ khôn ngoan như Tim Cook sẽ không giảm giá cho đến khi bắt buộc phải làm vậy.
